GMO Foods, Are They Worth Buying?

Genetically Modified Foods: Are They Worth It?
Also referred to as genetically engineered foods, genetically modified foods are created by scientists in a laboratory setting by inserting genes from one organism into the DNA of another. The procedure is intended to create food products of better quality and to achieve great commercial success.
Some foods are genetically modified to prevent allergies, while others are created to increase their shelf life. Experts are working on creating genetically modified foods that have the ability to treat certain diseases.
Although developers of GMOs ensure that such foods are safe for consumption, the majority of people are against them.
Let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of genetically engineered foods.
Advantages Of Genetically Modified Foods
Pest Resistant: Every year farmers suffer losses due to pest infestations in their crops. Consumers avoid eating foods that are cultivated using pesticides, so growing GM foods helps eradicate the use of pesticides and reduces the cost of bringing the food to the market.
Disease Resistant: There are numerous viruses, bacteria and fungi that cause plant diseases. Developers of GMOs are working to create plants that are resistant to these diseases.
Nutrition: Malnutrition is one of the major problems faced by many third world countries. People are dying because of the inadequacy of necessary nutrients and minerals. Genetically engineered foods are higher in nutrition than traditional foods. Also, they taste better. Experts are also trying to create foods that contain additional vitamins and minerals in order to alleviate nutritional deficiency.
Cold Tolerance: Unexpected frost can destroy fields and crops. Genetic engineers have introduced an anti-freeze gene from cold water fish into plants such as potatoes and tobacco. Because of the presence of this gene, plants are able to withstand low temperatures that normally would destroy unmodified plants. Besides, GM foods have a high shelf life, which makes them very easy to store.
Disadvantages Of Genetically Modified Foods
Threat to Human Health: The biggest disadvantage of these foods is that they can be dangerous to human health. It is believed that consumption of GM foods can cause diseases to develop that are immune to antibiotics. Further, some experts believe that GM foods can increase the probability of forming cancerous cells.
Insect Resistant: Most genetically modified crops are created to be resistant to herbicides or to form their own pesticide in the form of Bacillus thurengiensis (Bt). Organic farming also includes the use of Bt, but very sparingly. However, acres of GM crops contain Bt. Experts believe that within three to four years, insects will become resistant to Bt.
Hidden Allergens: A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine pointed out that genetically modified soybeans contain proteins that can cause allergic reactions in people with sensitivity to nuts. Based on these findings, the sale of GM soybeans was restricted. However, the public may not be so fortunate in future since GM foods are not labelled and there is no way people can tell if food contains genes from species they are allergic to.
Religious Considerations: Genetic engineers incorporate fish genes into tomatoes to prevent them from freezing at low temperatures. Moreover, chicken DNA has been added to potatoes to increase their resistance to disease. Many people who are vegetarian may begin to wonder if the food they are eating is free from meat or not.
Genetically modified foods have the potential to eradicate hunger and malnutrition problems around the world. However, there are many ambiguities to this technology, and using it without caution can cause unintended harm to human health and the environment.

Negative People: Why Are Some People Always Negative?

What is clear that is that life is not always a bed of roses: there are ups and downs and sometimes, there can be more downs than ups. For some people, there will be more ups than there are downs, but for others, the downs will outweigh the ups.
One might then come to the conclusion that one some people are luckier or more fortunate than others. And when this opinion is based purely on what is happening externally, it can seem accurate and what is true.
However, if one was to look within someone and see what is taking place there, they might soon see that there is a reason why they are experiencing more ups than downs. Or why they are able to see life in a positive light even though life hasn't always gone their way.
Different Types
So life is made up of different types of people and some people can come across as always being positive and happy and others can come across as always being negative and unhappy.
There will also be people who swing between the two and don't seem to stay in either option for very long. But whether one feels positive or negative, it will be a combination of what is happening externally and what is happening internally.
The Mind
In the external world, certain things can take place that cause one to feel positive, and at other times, things can happen that make one feel negative. But while the external world can play a big part in how one thinks and feels, so can their mind.
What takes place externally is interpreted by the mind and the interpretation that is made will play a part in ones thoughts and feelings. And it works the other way to; with ones thoughts and feelings impacting what happens to them externally.
Extremes
Being positive all the time might be seen as being better than being negative all the time, and yet there are going to be down sides to this. One might be admired by some, but end up being labelled as being in denial by others.
And as life is not always pleasant, one would have to be in denial to always be positive. The mind works in polarities, so as a way to avoid pain, it can end up going to the other extreme. Therefore, one can end up needing to always be happy and positive as a way to avoid how they truly feel.
Based on this, always being positive or always begin negative are simply two sides of the same coin. One person is simply embracing how they feel and think and what is taking place externally, and another is doing all they can to avoid what is taking place.
Survival
When it comes to ones survival as a human being, focusing on what is negative is more important than focusing on what is positive. Placing ones attention on what makes them feel good might be pleasurable, but it is not necessarily going to ensure their survival.
Whereas, if one pays attention what is negative and therefore what is or what could be a threat to their survival, they are more likely to avid it and stay alive. This ability is surely one of the reasons why human beings have survived for as long as they have.
So it is in the interest of ones survival to focus on what is negative. However, it is easy for one to place their attention on what is negative, even when their survival is not under threat. And what we focus on grows, so it is important to monitor the minds tendency to focus on what is negative.
Stuck
If ones attention if placed completely on what is negative and they are unable to see life in any other way, then this can be a sign that they are emotionally stuck. This is the world of duality and while there are 'bad' things, there are also 'good' things.
And while one can end up always being positive, as a way to avoid facing how they feel, they can also end up always being negative due to not consciously facing how they feel. So whether one is always positive or always negative, they are still being controlled by their trapped feelings.
Consequences
These will then define how one thinks and their behaviour, as well as define their perceptions and this will then end up influencing their reality. The people they attract into their life and are attracted to, as well as the situations they find themselves in, will also reflect how they feel.
How one feels shapes their outer world and then their outer world ends up influencing how they feel on the inside. It also works the other way around; with ones external reality affecting their inner world.
If one is already full of negativity, it won't take much to put them into a negative state; that's if they are not already in one. And if one is fairly neutral within, there is going to be less chance of what is happening externally to have an impact on how they feel.
Trapped Emotions
When one has trapped emotions in their body, it is going to be a challenge for them to experience life in a way that is not negative. These feelings will influence their inner world and influence their outer world; so it can be hard for them to detach form what is happening and to see that they have become trapped in a cycle.
The following emotions can be trapped in one's body: grief, shame, powerlessness, hopelessness, rejection, abandonment and guilt, amongst others.
Awareness
As these are released, one will feel different and therefore their thoughts and behaviour will change. And this inner change will gradually have an impact on ones outer reality. The assistance of a therapist or a healer may be required.

Is Eating Red Meat Really Bad For You?

Can You Really Have Your Steak And Eat It Too?
With all the bad press red meat has been getting in the media recently, it's no wonder it's one of the most controversial subjects in the field of nutrition. Over the last many decades, it has been to blame for every kind of health problem from heart disease to cancer, why? Because it makes for a great headline! However what the newspapers fail to mention is that there is a very big difference in the quality of meat you can buy in your local supermarket, and that red meat, especially from grass-fed animals is one of the healthiest and most nutritious types of food you can eat!
But There Are Studies Showing It Is Bad For You!
The studies claiming to show red meat having a negative impact on your health are what are known as observational studies, these studies have many downfalls and can only show correlation between two different factors, not actually prove they are conclusively linked. The outcomes of these studies may very well be down to the fact that after the public "health scare", those eating red meat usually lead a less healthy lifestyle, are more inclined to eat junk food, smoke and drink alcohol.
Just look at our ancestors, they consumed much more than the average modern man, and they still remained exceptionally healthy. Yes, the quality of meat was almost certainly better and healthier than the meat from most of today's factory-farmed, hormone induced behemoths, yet the fact still remains, they didn't suffer from many of the health conditions that plague us today, and you can get very high quality meat, grass fed and free from all the other nasty toxins that may be pumped into our animals, just by being sensible with which product you choose.
Nutritional Benefits.
Red meat is absolutely loaded with a huge variety of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids, antioxidants and much more, all essential to maintaining a healthy, functioning, physiological system!
B Vitamins
It is a great source of B vitamins, these should ideally be consumed through whole food and red meat is a great way to ensure you get and adequate intake. It is a rich source of vitamin B12, this is vital to ensure proper functioning of nearly every system in your body. You also receive a massive variety of other B Vitamins from red meat, including niacin, riboflavin and vitamin B6.
Vitamin D
The vitamin D source in meat contains a metabolite 25-hydroxycholecalciferol, this is absorbed much more quickly and easily than other forms of vitamin D making it much more useful to the body. For people who don't get a lot of sun exposure or eat oily fish, it is a great way to get the vitamin D your body needs.
Iron
Again the form of iron contained in red meat (heme iron) is absorbed and utilized much more effectively than non heme iron. Consuming it in your diet becomes even more important for people suffering from conditions such as iron deficiency anemia or pregnant women, as iron is crucial for the growth and development of the fetal brain.
Zinc
Zinc is an essential mineral that has to be consumed through the diet, it is a vital part of many functions undertaken by the body, a lot of westerners fail to get enough zinc in their diet as other sources of zinc such as shellfish are less common.
Other Useful Minerals
The meat also contains a significant profile of other minerals vital to your bodies health such as selenium, magnesium, cobalt, copper, nickel, phosphorous and chromium. Red meat also contains high levels of creatine and carnosine, vegetarians are usually deficient of these nutrients which can have detrimental effects on the brain and muscle tissue.
Protein And Essential Fatty Acids
An average 100g portion of beef contains over 20g of protein, and 10g of fat! As the nutritional industry starts to realize that a diet containing a moderate amount of fats, red meat should become even more important in your diet. Essential fatty acids are just that, ESSENTIAL! Your body needs them to survive! Saturated fat is not bad for you in moderation, in fact it's incredibly healthy and vital to life.
So To Sum It All Up
DO NOT shy away from eating it, whatever these studies may "indicate", they are not proving red meat is to blame for any modern health problems, it is just media scaremongering. Red meat is a great source of a multitude of vital nutrients that will help with nearly every physiological function in the body, and should be eaten on a fairly regular basis, and on another note, there is nothing quite as satisfying as digging into a perfectly cooked, juicy steak. So YES, You really can have your steak and eat it too!

5 Foods To NEVER Eat

These foods can REALLY sabotage you if you're trying to lose fat. You'll think that you're eating healthy, but really the foods you're eating may be worse than the junk food you normally eat! Even worse, you won't be mentally counting these foods as "cheating"... so you'll likely cheat with "regular" junk foods on top of eating the stuff that you think is healthy.

How To Stop Caring What Others Think About You

Don't think too much
When you think you're being judged by the others, you're probably wrong. It's not easy to judge each and every person you see or meet and also keep in mind that people have their own worries, they don't have the time or desire to search for other people's flaws as well. You can test this by doing something differently and observe their reaction. Your friends or family would probably notice, but others just won't care.
Give yourself a High Five
Learn to catch yourself each time you're worrying about what others think. Remember the pattern of over-thinking and every time you do it, give yourself a compliment. That will boost your self-esteem just when it's needed to. When such moment occurs, give yourself a High 5, complimenting an aspect of your personality. Target the same thing or detail that you think people judge you about. For example: If you think that people judge you because of your loud laughter, try something like this: "I'm a happy person by nature and I'm trying to share laughter with others, which is always a good thing". See what I mean? Try to transform your over-thinking moment into a positive one.
Accept your uniqueness
Accepting yourself is not the easiest thing in a world to do. We all have our doubts and fears, but the important thing is how to manage them. When confronting with your self-doubts, this advice can help you in the process. First of all, you should write down the things you don't like about yourself. Now, take a closer look and see, if you can change them. Most things can be changed, but the main thing to remember here is your willingness to change. For example, if you want to lose weight, all you need is a little knowledge and a lot of determination. But it can be done much easier than you might think.
There are also some things that can't be changed, such as being taller. However, think the other way. Situation could be worse, right? Right. Accept things you cannot change and change those things you can change. Don't think about things you can't change, because that's just a waste of time. Besides, as the time passes by, you'll learn that some of those things aren't that important at all.
So, what have you learned here? I hope you've learned that people usually don't care as much as you think they do. You've learned that many things can be changed with a little determination and positive thinking. But most importantly, you've learned that the only opinion that really matters by the end of the day, is yours.

Avocado Health Benefits - Amount Of Calories And Nutrition

This Video presents the Avocado health benefits, explains why its a misunderstood food, why it is a super fruit. Its nutrition facts together with amount of calories are also presented together with useful tips how to integrate this miracle food into your weight loss diet.

Keep a Journal and Keep Your Sanity

Keeping a journal can be an asset to your mental health. It can save your sanity. Don't believe me? Well, try this little test.
Think about something that happened in the recent past that upset you. It could be an argument, a betrayal, and an angry client. Whatever it is, focus on how you felt; relive the experience.
How did it make you feel? Upset all over again? Well, now trywriting down what happened. Not only that, write down how you felt at the time, what you wished you'd done or said. Vent your anger if you need to. Put all your thoughts down on paper and write until you can't write anymore. Then assess how you feel.
I bet you feel better.
Writing in a journal is a safe place to rant
That's because writing down bad times and frustrations is a great way to release a lot of negativity in a safe environment. No one needs to know you have a journal in which you call your boss every name under the sun. It's your secret, your way of dealing with the negative thoughts and feelings that you associate with bad experiences in the past.
Keeping a journal is also great for coping with future worries. We are often emotionally "stuck" when it comes to past and imagined events. Worrying is a way of trying to deal with the unpredictable future and most of our worries are never warranted. But that doesn't stop them from making us feel unhappy.
Writing down your worries is a great way to focus your thoughts and analyse exactly what it is that you fear, worry about, want to improve or achieve and so on. Writing captures our myriad of thoughts on paper, containing them in a much more digestible way. When we worry, our thoughts tend to snowball and overwhelm us.
Writing gives us back our control. The act of writing puts you back in the driver's seat. After all, we should control our thoughts, not the other way round!
A journal can be your confidante
You certainly don't need to keep a journal religiously, writing in it every day, although it can definitely become a habit once you start. Instead, look on your journal as a means of talking through problems, ideas, hopes and fears without saying anything aloud. It can be your confidante, a nonjudgmental "listener".
Your journal is your private space where you can safely air your thoughts. If journaling ever becomes a chore then you simply need to stop writing in it until you feel the need to start again. Journaling should be something you find beneficial; it should never feel like another task to add to the list!
If you have never kept a journal before, all you need is a notebook and pen or, if you prefer, a Word document on your PC or a file on your Mac. Remember to keep it private; so don't mention your journal to anyone else in your home unless you know you can trust them not to read it.
A journal can lead to something big
I have been keeping journals since I was 12 years old and they are an amazing way to chronicle not only your everyday life, but also your dreams and ambitions. They help you better remember precious moments too.
I don't write in my journal every day and if I am busy I might not write for a week or two at a time. However, I usually come back to my journal because I feel the need to write and it's like returning to an old friend. Give it a go - I bet you will soon be hooked! And who knows - the experiences you write about might become a source of literary inspiration in years to come!

Things Everyone Should Know Regarding Health And Nutrition by Overland Mcguyer

A collection of tips on how to begin improving your diet makes the perfect starting point for a someone who wants to lead a healthier existence a bit easier. Below is a great example of advice that will hopefully assist the eager person into eventually into improving both their nutrition and their life.
Avoid factory farmed meats, eggs and dairy products. These products are filled with adrenaline due to the horrible cruelty experienced by the animals. Excess adrenaline will raise your levels of the stress hormone, Cortisol. This will cause you to experience excess stress levels, decreasing your level of overall health and happiness.
A famous saying that many people have heard over the years is that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Surprisingly enough, this is true. Apples are high in fiber, which is good for digestion and makes you feel full, so you don't feel the need to reach for sugary snacks, keeping you healthy.
Feed your children well right from the start to avoid problems with diseases such as diabetes, and obesity. A good nutritional foundation can mean the difference between a healthy life and one that consists of constant medical care. Help your children avoid problems in the future with good nutrition now.
Make sure your kids eat well by getting them involved in purchasing (or growing) planning and preparing meals. Involvement in meal planning and preparation always makes food taste better. This will also give you an opportunity to teach your kids about good nutrition - or to learn along with them!
When it comes to nutrition the power of a daily multivitamin can not be underestimated. With the fast pace of life in modern times, and the plethora of pre-packaged foods it has become very difficult to eat right. In order to get the nutrients your body needs make sure to take a daily vitamin.
An easy diet tip is to try to eat protein in every meal. Protein is more effective in satisfying hunger than high-calorie carbohydrates that often fill diets. For this reason, a small piece of grilled chicken and some veggies might be a better lunch than a couple of slices of pizza or a sandwich.
There are tons of different diets and eating plans out there available for anyone to grab. It should be noted however that the most essential plan of nutrition is the original food chart which incorporates all of the different food groups into a balanced diet. It is important to acknowledge that we need a little bit of everything in order to maintain a healthy body.
If you want to be healthy, you need to drink enough water. Your body is made up of roughly 60% water, and you lose it continually -- day and night. Rather than drinking large amounts of water at once, it is a good idea to always have a glass or bottle of water on hand and to sip it throughout the day.
Well, hopefully those tips were enough to give you a great start on what to do and expect when it comes to improving your nutrition. This collection was carefully constructed to help you learn what it takes to eat healthier and what your body needs to get from your food in order to keep functioning.

Telling a Good Story - A How To Guide

This article was one I was originally going to call "Every Picture Tells A Story", but since the title was taken, I decided to use "Telling A Good Story" instead which actually fits what I am going to say much better. We must create a good story before it happens, or we must believe a good story before we see it. What I mean by "believe a good story before we see it" is this: We must create a winner before we are one. We must do the work, visualization and believing before we see the result. Make not a single mistake, it cannot work the other way around. If it did, we would not need practice or train for anything, we would not need ideas to tell the story to our mentalities about what to genuinely do in life. Everything would be perfect and there would not be any need for growth.
The power of life is in the stories we create with our efforts and without that effort and growth the would not be any reason to exist.
The things that keep us alive are ideas, goals and solutions to problems. Without anything interesting going on, life would not have purpose. So when I use the title "Telling a good story, a how to guide", I mean using ideas, goals and solutions to problems as the impetus to ever live better, not to "beat life at its own game" and "have not a care in the world". The consistent care is joyous survival, anyhow, and it is necessary or there would really be nothing to live for emotionally, spiritually, and finally physically or otherwise.
So, through our efforts we must create a good story. Bad stories are only created when we default to them by not genuinely creatively solving our problems and quitting too early.
Listen, there are not any shortcuts to real winning that is earned deeply. Without necessary essence there is nothing there except something you cheated for. For, within the fully toldstory is the purpose. Skipping to the end of a good story is never fulfilling as the old saying from childhood goes. The real loss is the sort of ease that "makes it" without genuinely earning it. I know, that sentence sounds cryptic in a way, but it is the complete and unvarnished reality of life. The real loss is the sort of ease that "makes it" without genuinely earning it. The full story is always the best.

Can We Eat To STARVE CANCER?

William Li presents a new way to think about treating cancer and other diseases: anti-angiogenesis, preventing the growth of blood vessels that feed a tumor. The crucial first (and best) step: Eating cancer-fighting foods that cut off the supply lines and beat cancer at its own game. Many of society's most devastating diseases -- cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and Alzheimer's, to name a few -- share a common denominator: faulty angiogenesis, the body's growth of new capillary blood vessels.

Importance of Nutrition: Nutrition Tips for Beginners By Afterburn Fitness

To gain a muscular and healthy body, you not only have to undergo a regimen of strenuous exercise, you also have to monitor what you eat, by how much, and at what time. Every exercise routine goes hand in hand with a diet plan to gain the fastest and long lasting effect. As every person has a unique body, every exercise routine has to carefully crafted to suit the person specifically. And similarly a diet plan has to be prepared based on the person's life style, exercise routine, health goal, and body. It is not a very difficult art but one that requires a lot of experience and knowledge.

People often forget the importance of nutrition. But it has been proven scientifically and through time tested experiments that what you eat directly affects your body shape. Afterburn Fitness, the premier fitness center in Valencia Santa Clarita region, gives its members special custom made diet chart that is based upon the member's exercise routine and health goals. According to Tony Velasco, a celebrity trainer and the founder of Afterburn Fitness, this diet chart is the reason behind their success as the best fitness center in greater L.A area.
So taking a note from the same book here are a few nutrition tips that you can follow to lose weight fast. These are basic guidelines that must be followed by everyone no matter the exercise routine. And you can be sure that they will work because they come straight from Afterburn Fitness itself.
Minimize dairy, sugar and wheat
Sugar is the biggest enemy of good health. So try to avoid as much sugar as possible. Dairy products and wheat products also contain glucose, the bad kind, and some inherent carbohydrates so they should also be avoided. For those looking to build muscles try to replace dairy products with soya milk and its products. They taste nearly the same but are much richer in proteins and have nearly zero fat.
Eat a diet high in fiber
In today's fast paced life people are switching to fruit juices and fast foods instead of whole grain diet and fruits. In long term this may have sever adverse effect of health. According to past studies people who eat a diet that is high in fiber are less likely to develop heart disease or heart diseases. So try to include whole grain products and fruits in your diet.
Use cooking spray instead of oil
Oil is basic necessity of every dish. But try to minimize the intake of oils as much as possible. One method is to use a cooking spray instead of oil to prepare food. Also start using olive oil for cooking purposes as it is low on unsaturated fats.
DO NOT DRINK your calories
Stay away from high calorie drinks. People nowadays are drinking more cold drink than water. Infact some have solely substituted cold drink fruit juices, sodas and other caffeinated products as the sole source of their water intake. It's the biggest bane of any exercise routine. Contrary to popular belief, fruit juices are not that good for your health. They have the main nutrients on a fruit, but they don't have the best ingredient of a fruit, i.e. fiber. Also processed fruit juices are also high on calories and even contain preservatives that may be harmful for your health. So stay away from calorie rich liquids like soda, fruit juice, high calorie coffee drinks, etc.
Limit how much you eat out
Nearly every restaurant that is out there try to serves food that is appealing to taste buds. For this reason the health part is often neglected. Therefore try to limit eating-outs. If you are preparing the food yourself you can monitor the amount of calories that you put into your dish and at the same time make it as healthy as possible. If you are not able to cook your own food for some reason switch to fruit diets or salads, without extra oil and sauces of course.

Why Nick Vujicic Quotes Are Changing The World

His quotes and sayings are seen everywhere from Tumblr to motivational wallpaper - Nicholas James "Nick" Vujicic is a source of inspiration to a wide group of people. Today, he is known to the world for his YouTube videos, the movie The Butterfly Circus, his music video Something More, his motivational books, and for the motivational speeches he delivers. Nick V is quoted are all over the internet.
Mr. Vujicic was born with none of the four limbs. In spite of his condition, he learned to appreciate the beauty of life at 17. Although he was mentally fit, because of his physical disability, he was not allowed to attend regular schools. Later when the laws were changed, he was one of the first disabled children who studied in mainstream schools. There, Nick was bullied by other kids as he struggled to find his way. He planned suicide several times, but thankfully never went through with it. The love he received from his parents, and his belief for God, made him stronger.
Some inspiring words by Nick Vujicic are: "Sometimes you may feel like you are just about to realize your goal only to fall short. That is no reason to quit. Defeat happens only to those who refuse to try again." This Nick Vujicic quote basically encourages people to never give up. He says here that only those who stop trying lose.
The popular Australian speaker followed his own words of wisdom, and began to look at life from a different vantage point whenever he felt troubled. When he realized he was not the only one who struggled, he began to accept it. He tried completing most of his daily tasks by himself. He not only taught himself regular things like writing, answering phone calls, shaving, combing, and brushing his hair, but also learned to throw tennis balls and play the drums.
James started to deliver speeches in prayer groups when he was only seventeen. Soon after that, he started "Life without Limbs," his own non-profit organization. Through this organization, he inspired people from all around the world. He talked to them about hope and finding meaning in life. Mostly, he delivered encouragement on life with a disability.
He married his fiance Kanae Miyahara in 2012, and continues to prove to the world that a disability is not a hindrance. This Vujicic quotes sums up his life best: "If you believe in God, you can overcome problems of any sort."

Foods That Help Improve Brain Health

Studies reveal that what we eat and drink affects not merely our bodies but also our brain. As we age, our brain ages with us but we can improve our likelihood of keeping a healthy, working brain by eating brain boosting foods. Listed here are several foods to buy the next time you drop by the store.
Whole foods - They are great for your brain since they are not that loaded with preservatives and additives compared to processed foods. Whole grain products also enhance cardiovascular health, and when the brain receives good blood flow, it is kept in good working order. Whole grains such as oatmeal and brown rice also have high levels of Vitamin E, which keeps the nervous system healthy by safeguarding the myelin sheaths which surround your nerves. Experts believe that adequate intake of vitamin E may prevent mental degeneration because of aging.
Nuts and seeds - These foods are also rich in Vitamin E. Nuts you can purchase in shops tend to be packed with sodium, so opt for low-salt, roasted variants.
Avocados - This fruit, while high in calories, also has healthy levels of monounsaturated fat, which contributes to better flow of oxygenated blood.
Blueberries - Aside from being delicious, they are also packed with nutrients which help protect the brain from oxidative stress and the effects of aging. Animal research has long demonstrated a strong link between intake of berries and brain wellness. A recent study on people revealed that regular consumption of blueberries is connected to a slower decline in both memory and concentration.
Sardines and salmon - These fatty fish are well-known foods for the brain. They contain good levels of omega-3 fatty acids, EFA, and DHA, all of these have been linked to reduced dementia risk, and increased concentration and memory.
Coffee and chocolate - Caffeine found in coffee and chocolates boost and sustain mental acuity. Chocolate is also rich in flavonoids, a group of antioxidants thought to improve the circulation of blood. Coffee is also rich in antioxidants that are beneficial to the brain.
Acetyl-L-carnitine - This is a protein chain that our body creates naturally. A lot of people might not have enough carnitine as their bodies cannot create enough or are not able to transport it into tissues that need it. This substance helps in boosting memory, relieving age-related depression, and slowing down the progression of Alzheimer̢۪s disease. Dietary sources of carnitine include red meat, specifically lamb, dairy products, avocados, peanuts, and fish. As an alternative, you may take supplements that have acetyl-L-carnitine, for instance Procera AVH.

How To Create A Positive Mindset?

Almost all successful people will tell you how having a positive mind will lead to positive results. Well that sounds philosophical but do these 'successful' people have any idea how darn difficult it is to have a positive outlook in life, especially in today's era?
Being an optimist is not easy, especially if you have always viewed the glass as half empty. But has pessimism got you anywhere? The worst effect of negative thoughts is to always put the person in fear, fight, or anger mode. And what happens when you are always worked up by these emotions- it ends up negatively affecting your health, your personal and your work life.
When you start conditioning your brain to develop a positive outlook, you automatically start noticing more opportunities in life and experience an overall feeling of lingering contentment. Testify this by thinking about one bad experience in life that you had undergone, now pick out one positive thing you learnt from it. Doesn't it abate the negative feelings a bit?
You can read hundreds of self-help books to acquire an optimistic mentality, but it is all useless unless you take the first step.
The first step to any long-lasting change is to decide that you want to make that change happen at any cost. Promise yourself or even make a public commitment to honor your decision, and you will see how things do a one eighty.
Developing a Positive Mindset
Understanding your thoughts- Most people have no idea how they really are on the inside. They often just tend to go with the flow. Introspect a lot, analyze your thoughts. Are your thoughts predominantly laced with jealousy for someone, or are you mainly thinking about ways to earn truckloads of money. Our thoughts define us because it is these thoughts that turn into action. You can't change something you are not familiar with.
Believe in yourself- You have the power to change not just yourself but the entire world. Gandhi changed the fate of an entire nation just through his principles. Always remember that if you want you can change in this very instant, your mind is that powerful. Whenever doubt creeps in, assure yourself that you have the ability to move mountains, why then should you doubt yourself?
Challenge the beliefs behind negative thoughts- Each of our thoughts is based on some sort of a belief. People who despise female coworkers getting hired are of the opinion that women are incompetent or that they should not be treated equal. Similarly, if someone yearns to help street animals, it is because they believe that animals deserve the compassion and love that has been denied to them. Understand the underlying beliefs behind each of your negative thoughts, and is it really correct to do so? Get an outsider's perspective for an unbiased opinion.
Replace the negative thoughts- Once you analyze your thoughts and challenge your beliefs, it's time to replace these with positive ones. For every negative thought that passes your brain, figure out how you can change it with a good thought instead.
Snip the negative people out of your life- Subconsciously we tend to emulate our peers. If you are going to surround yourself by negative people, you will most definitely start singing to their tunes. Have you noticed how such people just suck the happiness out of you? You know, these people are going through personal battles and feel a sort of sadistic pleasure when they bring someone down to where they are. Never be this person, and as much as possible stay away from such people.
Do something positive daily- Don't you feel like a good Samaritan when you remove the stone out of the sidewalk or buy a homeless man some coffee? A positive and kind action will not only make the world a better place but it will make you a better and positive person too. You don't have to do something exquisite, a small action such as even waking up with a smile on your face will suffice.
Do yoga and practice positive affirmations- When you want to change your mindset, you need to work on your mind a lot. Yoga and meditation helps to calm the mind, making it a lot easier to introspect and cull the meaningful thoughts out of the random ones. And positive affirmation is the leverage on which every change depends, and especially one where you wish to create a positive mindset. Choose an affirmation like 'I'm becoming positive everyday' 'I am a positive, happy, and healthy person today'. The idea is to choose one that makes you feel closer to the purpose and instigates you to change.
Always smile a lot! Laugh whole-heartedly, and whenever you face an adverse situation in life, look for the silver lining- it exists, it always does.

Natural Chaos Should Not Be Feared But Embraced

We resist and or fear both unnatural chaos (for good reason) and natural chaos (because we've been conditioned to), so we rely on policies and rules to ease individual and collective fears and, we usually hope, to smooth life's path. How's that really working so far? Can we go too far with this? Can chaos ever be a good thing? What if natural chaos actually contributes to desired improvement? Let's see.
I read an article posted on a social site: "School ditches rules and loses bullies." It was a fascinating and revealing account of an Auckland, New Zealand, school that, as part of a university experiment, got rid of the playground rulebook (and all rules, which was beyond what the experiment required) that had been created to do what you might expect such rules to do: protect children and property, and maintain order. The astonishing results of the no-rules experiment were there were fewer injuries, less vandalism, and a significant drop in bullying. Also, concentration levels in the classroom increased. Could this remarkable result also apply outside that school's environment, for all of us?
Principal Bruce McLachlan said, "We want kids to be safe and to look after them, but we end up wrapping them in cotton wool when in fact they should be able to fall over." This return to what it was like before health and safety policies began to rule at the school led to the re-realization that the activities and fun children create when allowed to, without numerous restrictions, kept them so occupied and creative that the time-out area was no longer needed, nor were as many teachers required to keep watch. "The kids were motivated, busy and engaged. In my experience, the time children get into trouble is when they are not busy, motivated and engaged. It's during that time they bully other kids, graffiti or wreck things around the school." The children were happy, and parents were happy because their children were happy.
The article went on to comment that a certain amount of risk-taking develops parts of the brain and develops the ability to work out consequences of actions. "You can't teach them that. They have to learn risk on their own terms. It doesn't develop by watching TV; they have to get out there."
Interestingly, the comments that resulted on the social site posting were equally revealing. One person was insistent (despite the proven results) that without rules, bullying would increase. The poster (both a mother and in the educational field) replied that children would learn consequences of actions and to defend themselves; and that in adulthood there is no teacher to run to. A replier to the poster's comment stated that because he'd always had an adult to take care of everything for him when he was growing up, as an adult he doesn't know what to do in certain circumstances. Another replier feared that children would be punished for standing up for or defending themselves, as had been her experience (which mimics what does happen in society at large: for example, a resident can be sued by a thief injured while breaking into the resident's house).
The replier concerned about a potential (or, in his opinion, inevitable) increase in bullying wrote: "I get all that, but I think that no matter what, there would still be bullies. I know I, for one, would see this as an opportunity to be an even bigger bully. No rules? Then there would be more punishment for disobeying me. I'm not trying to say it's a good thing, but I think it could lead to some not-so-good things." The poster replied, "That's the society we've become. You're right. It's kind of scary, not to mention that kids allowed to explore and make their own mistakes are often the ones that are inventors and the great thinkers. It would be a different world if we were allowed to just experience life, rather than just doing what we're told."
At this point, I added my two-cents-worth: Bullies happen-in the schoolyard and in the bigger world. They can legislate behavior all they want in both venues, but there will always be those with either the primary psychosis (from birth) or secondary psychosis (from conditioning), who act out as bullies. The only thing legislating behavior does is oppress those who don't need the rules in the first place, those who know how to behave or who figure it out as they go-who figure out that they have a choice: find a way to co-exist as peacefully as possible or get into trouble. They can legislate behavior out the yin-yang, and it'll still be the bullies who come out to "play" while all the others are following the rules-the unnecessary rules. It's a matter of how much freedom will we give up because there are bullies in the schoolyard (or the global environment) who don't play by anyone's rules.
Natural chaos and unnatural chaos spawn different experiences and outcomes because of the energy and motivation inherent in each. In the matter of Prohibition, a law put into effect in the U.S. in the 1920s and pushed for by those who wanted to control others' personal choices, specifically behavior  the unnatural chaos created by the imposed rule resulted in an escalation in organized crime and other crime, violence, and imprisonment. In the matter of the school and playground experiment, the natural chaos created by removing the rules so children worked things out for themselves (within reason, as they were children) resulted in enhanced self-learning, self-modifying, creativity, harmony, productivity, conflict resolution, self-governing behavior, and focus and attention. Although the article didn't mention this, it's difficult to imagine that a boost in self-confidence and self-reliance was not also a result.
How much of the chaos happening in the world now is actually caused by more or certain rules or policies being added or remaining rather than going to the true root of the matter and addressing the individuals causing the real problems? It's become the "norm" in society to treat symptoms rather than target the true cause, be it alcoholism or health or whatever. It's also become the "norm" to make rules everyone must follow, not just those who actually need proper and effective attention. It's like what sometimes happened when I was in school: one student misbehaved and the entire class was punished.
We're in a society that rewards people who follow the rules, even the nonsensical or infringing ones. The "rewards" are that they don't get penalized; they get proverbial pats on the head; they get to feel superior to rule-breakers (or be envious, depending on the rules not followed). We have a profusion and confusion of rules, and the letter of the law tends to be followed rather than the spirit of the law. At a lower point on the gradient, specific utensils are to be arranged in a particular order and used as appropriate when you dine or you're thought to be unsophisticated, low, less. At a middle point, stop signs at intersections are to encourage safety and avoid confusion; but if it's three in the morning, no traffic anywhere, with clear visibility in all directions, and you slow or pause rather than stop, you could get a ticket because you broke a rule. At a more extreme point, something is legal in one county or state, but illegal in another; legal in one country, but illegal in another; immoral for individuals, but moral (or deemed acceptable) for those in positions of power. There are personal-choice decisions made for us that we should be responsible to make on our own.
If everyone everywhere learned and followed the moral compass to never steal or violate in any way the life, property, and security of anyone, and taught this to their children, what need of rules would there be? Who would need to create rules, and for what reason? The replier to the post about bullying believes the world would be an even more unsafe place without lots of rules and perhaps even more of them, then went on to explain why: because without them, he would be abusive or more abusive. During the experiment, I venture to say that any bullies who did attempt their behaviors with the children in the schoolyard were dealt with by the children.
For those who ignore moral right anyway, there is usually only one way to deal with or stop them: deterrents regarding their own well-being, to give them pause before they choose to exhibit such behaviors or to help them correct behaviors. This may sound harsh to some, but it's akin to preventive healthcare. In the school experiment, it's possible that several children stood together to oppose a bully who then backed down, or perhaps they refused to include any bully in activities and play, until the bully chose to behave better and did, and perhaps demonstrated a sincere desire to contribute in a productive way.
If some people never broke or ignored certain and, particularly, unnecessary rules, including academic; never thought outside of the creativity box; or colored outside the lines, we'd have a poverty of inventions, innovations, improvements, and cultural arts. We could, indeed, become better problem solvers than we currently are, individually and collectively. Natural chaos brings our attention to where problems or issues exist so we can resolve them in a beneficial way-or is supposed to. But so many, as with the replier, hold the belief that mankind in general, as individuals and as a collective, are incapable of controlling their behaviors and actions or of truly knowing and honoring the difference between moral right and wrong, so must have rules imposed on them/us. All we have to do is look around and realize this is not wholly true or accurate. Yes, there are those who seem not to possess a moral compass or would act against their moral compass, but they could be addressed individually, as needed. Their unnatural chaos tendencies could be managed. And if you think about it, those who do not follow a moral compass are outnumbered by those who do.
Natural chaos causes inventions and innovations to flourish, as has happened throughout history: We have no cause to fear it, but every reason to embrace it. As Plato said, "Necessity... the mother of invention." Chaos is a teacher, including teaching us what not to do. Fear of chaos can lead to the death of imagination, and to the end of freedom, on a school playground or in daily life. Ben Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither, and will lose both."
The school experiment demonstrated the positive results of natural chaos and the freedom to address it that leads to better self-governing, personal responsibility, and improved creativity, productivity, and cooperation required for quality problem solving and as-peaceful-as-possible co-existence. The rules had, previously, created something of a mental, imaginational, and socially restrictive enclosure for the children. The absence of the rules opened "doors and windows and skylights" to let freshness into their minds. It opened a beneficial level of freedom for the students, teachers, and, yes, even most of the bullies.
Imagination and freedom of thought, word, and action-guided by moral right and Natural Laws of the One Creator and a mutual understanding and agreement about these-are needed to create, including to create a better state of existence if the one experienced isn't working as well as it could. We, as individuals and a collective, have an obligation to ourselves and others to work on and increase our consciousness and awareness so that rules are not required for peaceful co-existence and quality of life. The school children in the experiment proved-or rather, reminded us-that this is possible. It's a good practice, one you'll appreciate.

Type 2 Diabetes - Eat More Fruits and Vegetables To Help Prevent Heart Attacks in Diabetics

Treatment for Type 2 diabetes is all about preventing complications. Heart and blood vessel disease is perhaps the most important complication to prevent, since the heart and blood vessels affect the rest of the body. Fruits and vegetables are associated with a lowered risk for heart and blood vessel disease.
An article published in the Cardiovascular Diabetology journal in January 2014, reports on a study that could explain how eating various fruits and vegetables could prevent heart attacks and various other complications associated with Type 2 diabetes.
The study included 80 obese individuals with Type 2 diabetes, who were assigned...
  • either 1, or
  • at least 6 portions of fruits and vegetables
for a period of 8 weeks. It was found the diabetics in the larger amount of fruits and vegetables group, had more carotenoids or vitamin A-like molecules, and more enzymes called PON-1 and LCAT in their bloodstreams than did those in the low fruits and vegetables group.
Some studies have shown vitamin A can be associated with lowered levels of heart and blood vessel disease. Some have shown wider areas for blood to pass through the carotid arteries in people with high vitamin A levels.
HDL or "good" cholesterol, is associated with a low risk for heart attacks but in diabetics the protective effect of HDL is less than it is in non-diabetics. The enzymes PON-1 and LCAT are associated with HDL's antioxidant abilities. This could mean eating fruits and vegetables containing these enzymes could help HDL do its antioxidant job - mopping up free radicals that can cause disease.
From these results it was concluded PON-1 and LCAT could be one reason fruits and vegetables help protect against heart and blood vessel disease.
Further research will elucidate exactly how fruits and vegetables contribute to good health. In the meantime, have some vegetables for dinner with fruit for dessert...
  • one serving size is equal to 1 cup of raw leafy vegetables, such as lettuce, a half cup of other veggies, or a half cup of vegetable juice.
  • one medium-sized fruit, such as a medium apple, a half cup of cooked or canned fruit, or a half cup of fruit juice is equal to one serving.
Onegreenplanet.com has a recipe for vegan omelette than calls for spinach, mushrooms, garbanzo bean flour, garlic, boullion powder, and baking soda, providing two servings of vegetables for breakfast.
Wikihow.com suggests making vegetable stew with parsnips, rutagbaga, carrot, turnips, sweet potatoes, onions, celery, vegetable stock, vinegar, vegetarian gravy powder, olive oil, garlic, herbs, and parsley. A cup of the stew with a cup of salad along with an apple for dessert would provide 3 servings of fruits and veggies for lunch.
A large dinner salad will more than complete 6 servings of fruits and vegetables for the day. Ohmyveggies.com offers 50 recipes for veggie dinner salads, so getting your 6 servings or more per day should be really tasty.
Type 2 diabetes is no longer a condition you must just live with. It need not slowly and inevitably get worse. Now is the time to take control of the disease - and take back your life.

Definition of Motivation.

The definition of motivation is to give reason, incentive, enthusiasm, or interest that causes a specific action or certain behavior. Motivation is present in every life function. Simple acts such as eating are motivated by hunger. Education is motivated by desire for knowledge. Motivators can be anything from reward to coercion.
There are two main kinds of motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation is internal. It occurs when people are compelled to do something out of pleasure, importance, or desire. Extrinsic motivation occurs when external factors compel the person to do something. However, there are many theories and labels that serve as sub tittles to the definition of motivation. For example: "I will give you a candy bar if you clean your room." This is an example of reward motivation.
A common place that we see the need to apply motivation, is in the work place. In the work force, we can see motivation play a key role in leadership success. A person unable to grasp motivation and apply it, will not become or stay a leader. It is critical that anyone seeking to lead or motivate understand "Howletts Hierarchy of Work Motivators."
Salary, benefits, working conditions, supervision, policy, safety, security, affiliation, and relationships are all externally motivated needs. These are the first three levels of "Howletts Hierarchy" When these needs are achieved, the person moves up to level four and then five. However, if levels one through three are not met, the person becomes dissatisfied with their job. When satisfaction is not found, the person becomes less productive and eventually quits or is fired. Achievement, advancement, recognition, growth, responsibility, and job nature are internal motivators. These are the last two levels of "Howletts Hierarchy." They occur when the person motivates themselves (after external motivation needs are met.) An employer or leader that meets the needs on the "Howletts Hierarchy" will see motivated employees and see productivity increase. Understanding the definition of motivation, and then applying it, is one of the most prevalent challenges facing employers and supervisors. Companies often spend thousands of dollars each year hiring outside firms just to give motivation seminars.
Another place motivation plays a key role is in education. A teacher that implements motivational techniques will see an increased participation, effort, and higher grades. Part of the teachers job is to provide an environment that is motivationally charged. This environment accounts for students who lack their own internal motivation. One of the first places people begin to set goals for themselves is in school. Ask any adult: "What is the main thing that motivates you." Their answer will most likely be goals. Even the simplest things in life are the result of goal setting. A person may say, "I want to save 300.00 for a new T.V." Well, that is a goal. School is where we are most likely to learn the correlation between goals, and the definition of motivation. That correlation is what breeds success.
So, as you can see, motivation is what propels life. It plays a major role in nearly everything we do. Without motivation, we would simply not care about outcomes, means, accomplishment, education, success, failure, employment, etc.. Then, what would be the point?

What Happened to Your Dreams?

A long time ago, when you were full of vigor, you had a lot of dreams. You dreamt of big and grandiose things, of being rich and famous, of going places, of having your name as well-known as your favorite pretzels; of conquering the world.
What happened to your dreams?
"Well," you might say, "they have gone the way most youthful dreams go - buried and forgotten."
Yes, years and adulthood have a way of transforming our youthful idealisms and fantasies into realities that we are often not prepared to handle, of making life so overwhelming we can hardly keep our noses above water.
When we become adults, our dreams give way to new priorities, new responsibilities, different set of problems and concerns, of starting a family and many more. We get out from the comfortable life-support from parents and begin to live our own lives, earn our own keep and lay down the blueprint for the future.
It is the time, supposedly, when we ask ourselves the question, "What will I do with my life?"
As simple and straightforward this may be, a lot of young people, rather than meet it head on, skirt around it or avoid it altogether for two reasons:
First: They don't take life too seriously until later when it is already too late;
Second: They think it is self-indulgence to be so engrossed with self or career.
Consequently, they miss the opportunity of laying down the foundations of a happy, successful and meaningful life. Not only have they abandoned their youthful dreams, they have succumbed to the allure of things that are within reach and easy for the taking. They embrace the fast food mentality.
There are so many young people these days toiling at jobs they hate. Too many smart, educated and talented young people working at half their potential at jobs they are just tolerating, not loving. They have put their dreams on hold in exchange for more money, a bigger house, a fancy car, private schools for the children, and many other worldly things that are not relevant to what a happy and successful life is.
This is rather tragic because we currently live in a world full of choices. We need not tolerate jobs we hate. We can choose careers that can both satisfy our material needs and our core values, our dreams. All you need to do is decide what to devote your life on and then pursue it.
But making that decision is impossible if you avoid confronting the fundamental question of "What will I do with my life?"
The answer to that question is best expressed by Card Sandberg who said,
"Nothing happens unless first a dream."
To know what to do with your life, you must get out of your shell of complacency and confront your fears. Get to know yourself, your values, the things you love to do, and your strengths and weaknesses. Then decide on pursuing them until you have them in your hands to see, to touch, to feel, to be proud of and be exceedingly joyful with.
You have to dream dreams again.
Real success can only be achieved by unleashing your productive, creative and focused energy from within at something you love doing.
Doing something you love doing is liberating because it rids you of the burden of doing something with no relevance to your values, your dreams, on what you deem important. It removes the dreariness of life, replacing it with vigor and enthusiasm knowing that at the end of the day, you have lived a meaningful life.
A lot of people are scared of living out their dreams for fear of not being able to live in abundance; to perpetually try to make both ends meet. They take living out their dreams as a form of self-denial. But a meaningful life is not of abundance but of living within your means. It is not wishing what others have but to be content with what you have, or to keep on reaching for things too far out to reach but to slowly and steadfastly gather those you easily can.
This is not coping out on life. Living out your dreams is to pursue happiness and success based on your core values, your inborn talent and your innate skills. It is pushing yourself to the limit on things you love to do, not of what others want you to do. It is being YOU.
Again, this may sound too far out or radical. But people always gravitate to what they desire most in life - happiness and success. Soon, you will want to get out of the prison you unwittingly put yourself into. You will look for ways to break out, to be free.
Do it now while you can.
